The one thing I love about most shifter books is how they recognize their mate as soon as they see, or smell them. I will never, ever, tire of that concept. It's what makes reading these matings so much fun for me, however, in this series, I personally don't like how long it takes them to realize that they are mates. I mean, they can take their time at actually falling in love, working on their relationship, but at least I'd like them to know that they are mates. I felt like it took so long in this book, but I did like Jason, and even Riley. Naturally, I was angry at Riley for a while, but I think that he paid his dues for deceiving, Jason and the pack. The writing was well done, as always, and the ending was so sweet that I could just feel the warmth wash over me. Almost brought tears to my eyes. Oh, and Jesse was still a hoot. Wonderful story. =)Product details

A Liar Moon [Strength of the Pack 2] Siren Publishing Classic ManLove edition by Joy Lynn Fielding Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
I loved this story. It was well written and carefully developed. In the beginning, Riley is deceitful, manipulative, and egotistical. He enters town looking to betray its resident pack so that he can make it big. Then he meets Jason, a shy innocent man to whom he is instantly attracted. he manipulates things so that Jason is forced to sho him around town. Slowly but surely, things between the two men heat up. It is at this point that the author starts to let's bits of Riley's past unfold and he becomes a bit more likable and human. Eventually, Jason discovers Riley's deception and things turn ugly. At this point, I discovered I was truly invested in both characters and found myself longing for a HEA. Riley was no longer a liar, but a man who is a victim of his upbringing and current circumstances. I wanted him to have the chance to show Jason who he really is and why he did what he did. After saving Jason's life, Riley finally gets his chance and the two men discover they are similar. They are two men who just wanted to belong. They found that belonging together as mates.
I was so invested in the characters and the story that I read this in one sitting. I highly recommend this to anyone who loves a good HEA story.
Well Joy managed to do it. And she did it in an unexpected way. How was it possible to enjoy a book so much when you spent most of it hating one of the MCs? I really really disliked Riley for most of the story as much as I loved Jason. I kept hoping he'd find out the truth but at the same time I didn't want him to be hurt, because he had such a loving open heart. Then that darn Joy turned the tables on you and made you see Riley in a different non-liars moon light. No fair!! (Arms tightly crossed with a angry frowny face o( I have the right as a reader to dislike characters and not be forced to see them as people making poor choices who come to see the error of their ways. What?!! (Angry foot stomp)
Riley has failed at everything he has tried and this is his last chance to prove to his father that even though he has been a disappointment in all things, including being gay, he can be successful as an investigative journalist. He is in Elk Ridge to find and expose the Argent, the pack that has him and break the story of the nefarious plans the pack has. While seeking information and meeting the locals he meets Jason, the cute cook at the local diner. They spend time together, Jason telling Riley about the town so he can write a fictitious Travel Guide. What RIley doesn't know is that Jason is one of the pack he is investigating. Riley seems to have a latent sense of negative view of shifters although he doesn't appear to realise it. It does come out in some of what he says, but it is partly his lack of contact with any. Jason and RIley become close, Riley using his link to Jason to get more information about the pack. But he is careful not to use Jason - Jason is too important to him. More pressure is building for RIley to break the story - but as he gives in to the pressure Jason finds out there is no travel guide and that Riley has betrayed his trust. Riley can't take that he has broken Jason's trust and the tentative bond they shared. Can he fix this? Or will the wolf that has him pinned to the ground with his mouth at his throat take away that chance?
Really nice read. It let's us into each characters thinking and motivations. We see Riley is torn but also desperate. We see Jason is young and trusting but strong enough to walk away when needed and stronger still to stand up to his pack and family. This is a well told story building on the first book and allowing us to travel deeper into this loving pack. It is entertaining and engaging and well worth the purchase.
